In Seoul, South Korea, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, Oh Dong-woon, announced that President Yoon Suk Yeol, who has been impeached, will be arrested by Monday. This follows an arrest warrant issued by a Seoul court. Oh Dong-woon emphasized that any attempts to obstruct the arrest, such as barricades or locked gates, would be considered interference with official duties.
The arrest warrant is set to be executed within its valid period, which ends on Monday. Oh Dong-woon stated that the process aims to be smooth, but police and personnel are prepared to ensure the warrant's execution. The court had approved the warrant after rejecting Yoon's claims that the Corruption Investigation Office lacks jurisdiction over insurrection cases and that the warrant was illegal.
Yoon was impeached by the National Assembly on December 3 for attempting to impose martial law. The impeachment vote was 204 to 85, with three abstentions and eight invalid votes. Following his impeachment, Yoon was suspended from office.
