Smriti Mandhana Praises Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

Dubai [UAE], October 2: As the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 approaches, Indian batter Smriti Mandhana has expressed her admiration for team captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Mandhana described the 35-year-old skipper as fierce and always giving her best.

Last month, the Indian women’s cricket team arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which starts on October 3. Speaking to Star Sports, Mandhana highlighted the growth of women’s cricket in India over the past 8-9 years and noted that younger players look up to Harmanpreet for motivation.

“It’s been amazing to be on this journey with Harman since my debut. Over the last 8-9 years, we’ve seen how much women’s cricket has grown. One thing about Harman is that she’s always going to fight it out, no matter the situation. She’s fierce and always gives her best, and that’s something I admire. She’s not only a motivation for me but also for the younger players in the team,” Mandhana said.

In the previous T20 World Cup in 2022, India reached the semi-finals but were defeated by Australia. Leading up to this year’s World Cup, India had mixed results, losing series to Australia and England but winning against Bangladesh. They also drew a series with South Africa and lost the Asia Cup final to Sri Lanka.

India will start their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 4 at the Dubai International Stadium. In last year’s T20 World Cup, Australia won their sixth title by defeating South Africa in the final, while India lost to Australia in the semi-finals.
