Wajid Jagirani, a prominent activist from the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has been arrested in Abu Dhabi, causing alarm among human rights organizations and Sindhi nationalist parties. They fear for his safety if he is deported to Pakistan, given the country's history of enforced disappearances of political activists.
Jagirani is known for his nonviolent advocacy for Sindh's rights and self-determination. His supporters are worried that his deportation could lead to severe consequences. In response, the Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement has called on international bodies, including the British government, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the United Nations, to intervene urgently to ensure his safety.
Activists have also appealed directly to the Dubai government to halt his deportation, arguing that it would be a serious human rights violation. The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement recently commemorated the 121st birth anniversary of Sain GM Syed, the "Father of Sindhi Nation," with a rally demanding an end to extremism, forced conversions, and disappearances in Sindh, Pakistan.
Protesters at the event raised slogans against religious extremism, the construction of dams on the Indus River, and human rights abuses, highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by the Sindhi, Baloch, and Pashtun communities.
