On Friday, Shehzad Poonawalla, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of ordering the demolition of 24 temples in Delhi from 2016 to 2023. Poonawalla claimed that documents show AAP leaders, including the Chief Minister and Ministers, issued orders to demolish these structures.
He specifically mentioned that in 2016, Satyendra Jain, the then Home Minister, signed orders to demolish eight temples while intervening to save two mosques without historical significance. Poonawalla criticized AAP as the "biggest anti-Hindu party" in India, highlighting their silence on attacks against Sanatan Dharma by their allies like DMK, TMC, and Congress.
In response, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of ordering temple demolitions in the capital. She claimed that the BJP pretends to protect Hinduism while secretly instructing officials to destroy temples. Atishi mentioned a Religious Committee meeting on November 22, where it was decided to demolish several temples in various areas of Delhi.
