The 21st Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival is set to take place from January 6-12 in Sharjah, UAE. The festival is held under the patronage of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah.
Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, emphasized the festival's importance in enriching the Arab literary scene. The event will include poetry readings, book signings, and the unveiling of 12 new poets celebrated for their contributions to the "Golden Qawafi Award."
An intellectual symposium titled "Arabic Poetry: From Stability to Transformation" will explore critical issues in Arabic poetry. The festival will also honor two poets, Talal Al Junaibi from the UAE and Hussein Al Abdullah from Syria, with the 13th Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry.
The festival will host poets from African countries such as Senegal, Mali, Niger, and Chad, highlighting its openness to new poetic landscapes. The event will open at the Sharjah Cultural Palace with a documentary titled "A Decade of Giving: The Houses of Poetry," followed by poetry readings from notable poets.
The festival will celebrate the winners of the 4th Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism, including Fathi Ben Belkacem Nasri from Tunisia, Dr. Ahmed Jarallah Yassin from Iraq, and Ibrahim Al Karawi from Morocco. The winners of the 3rd Golden Qawafi Award will also be honored.
