S Jaishankar Meets UNGA President Philemon Yang in New Delhi
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Philemon Yang, the President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New Delhi. They discussed important topics on the UN agenda, including reformed multilateralism and various regional, global, and developmental issues. Yang is on a four-day visit to India, invited by Jaishankar.
During his visit, Yang will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu to strengthen India's ties with the United Nations. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted the visit as an opportunity to enhance India-UN engagement ahead of the UN's 80th anniversary.
Yang, who became UNGA President on September 10, will travel to Bengaluru to visit Infosys and the Indian Institute of Science. There, he will engage with experts on India's innovations in sustainability and digital public infrastructures. Yang, a former Prime Minister of Cameroon, is known for advocating global unity and praised India's role in supporting the Global South.
