S Jaishankar Meets Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif at SCO Meeting in Islamabad

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared a friendly moment, shaking hands and exchanging greetings before a dinner hosted by Sharif. This event took place ahead of the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Islamabad.

Earlier, Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad and was warmly welcomed at Nur Khan Airbase by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General (South Asia) of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Children in traditional attire presented flowers to the foreign dignitaries, and a red carpet was rolled out, highlighting the significance of the event and the positive relations between the two countries.

The two-day SCO meeting, chaired by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is the second highest forum within the SCO. Pakistan assumed the rotating chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government for 2023-24 at the previous meeting in Bishkek. Jaishankar announced his participation in the meeting through a post on X, stating, “Landed in Islamabad to take part in SCO Council of Heads of Government Meeting.”

The meeting, set to begin on Wednesday in Islamabad, will focus on the trade and economic agenda of the organisation, with Jaishankar leading the Indian delegation.
