External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently met with Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya in Washington DC. They discussed the progress in their bilateral cooperation and developments related to the Quad, a strategic forum involving the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. Prior to this, Jaishankar also met with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong. He described their conversation as enjoyable, focusing on the current state of the world. Both meetings highlight the ongoing diplomatic engagements between India and its Quad partners.
Jaishankar is in the United States to represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump as the 47th President. He is attending the event at the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee. During his visit, Jaishankar will also meet with members of the incoming US administration and other dignitaries.
Earlier, Jaishankar participated in the opening of the US Consulate in Bangalore alongside US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti. He announced plans for India to open a consulate in Los Angeles, marking a significant step in strengthening India-US relations.
