Rajeshwari’s Scary Encounter with Stray Dogs in Hyderabad
On June 21, Rajeshwari was attacked by 15 stray dogs during her morning walk in Hyderabad. She shared her frightening experience, explaining how she managed to escape with the help of a car, a boy on a scooter, and a watchman.
Details of the Incident
Rajeshwari, who goes for a morning walk every day, was walking between the 3rd and 4th blocks when she encountered two dogs. One of the dogs barked, attracting more dogs that began attacking her. She tried to scare them away but fell. Fortunately, a car and a boy on a scooter arrived, causing the dogs to run away. A watchman also helped scare the dogs off.
Concerns Raised
Rajeshwari and her husband, Badri, expressed concerns about the stray dog menace in their area. They highlighted the dangers stray dogs pose, especially to children and the elderly. Badri mentioned that many tenants feed stray dogs inside their premises, leading to arguments when they tried to address the issue.
Stray Dog Problem in India
India has the largest number of stray dogs in the world and the highest cases of rabies deaths. Stray dogs cannot be killed but only sterilized, as per the Animal Birth Control Rules of 2001. However, municipalities often lack the funds to carry out sterilizations. Stray dogs may attack if they feel threatened, are hungry, or are protecting their puppies.
