Rahul Gandhi Meets Haryana Athletes, Calls for Sportspersons to Lead Sports Bodies
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader, met with a group of athletes from Haryana and across India. He emphasized that sportspersons should take charge of sports bodies instead of politicians.
Gandhi shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “No money, no game’ – this is the reality for most athletes in India today.” He listened to the athletes’ problems and shared a seven-minute video of his conversation with them.
He expressed disappointment with the current system, highlighting the lack of basic facilities like diet, rest, and training for athletes. Gandhi stressed that India has immense talent, but only transparency, fairness, and access to necessary facilities will ensure equal benefits for all players.
In the video, Gandhi criticized politicians holding positions in sports bodies, saying, “Bat pakadna nahin aata, lekin association pakad rakha hai’ (Can’t hold the bat, but has held the association).”
Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 to elect its 90-member state legislative assembly, with results set to be announced on October 8. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 40 seats, while Congress secured 30 seats.
