Recently, US officials informed Qatar that it must stop providing refuge to Hamas leaders. Qatar agreed and notified Hamas about a week ago. A senior US official stated, "Hamas is a terrorist group that has killed Americans and continues to hold Americans hostage. Its leaders should no longer be welcome in the capitals of any American partner."
However, a senior Hamas official dismissed these reports as "baseless" and a "pressure tactic," claiming similar allegations have been made in the past without evidence. The timeline for Hamas leaders to leave Qatar remains unclear.
This development follows the US presidential elections, where Donald Trump was declared the winner. Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss efforts to release hostages and end the war in Gaza.
Hamas launched a major attack on Israel on October 7 last year, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and more than 250 hostages. In response, Israel launched a counteroffensive, reportedly killing over 45,000 Palestinians in Gaza, raising global concerns and calls for a ceasefire.
