Putin Suggests India, China, and Brazil as Mediators for Ukraine Peace Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed that India, China, and Brazil could help mediate peace talks to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He referred to a preliminary agreement from earlier negotiations in Istanbul as a possible foundation for these talks.

India’s Role in Peace Efforts

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been actively advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. During his visit to Ukraine, PM Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and emphasized India’s stance on resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. PM Modi stated, “India was never neutral, we have always been on the side of peace.”

President Zelenskyy expressed confidence in India’s ability to contribute to peace, stating, “India will play its role. You are a big country. You have a big influence and you can stop Putin and halt his economy, and put him really in his place.”

PM Modi’s Visit to Russia

In July, PM Modi visited Russia and held talks with President Putin. During their meeting, PM Modi reiterated that solutions cannot be found on the battlefield and that peace talks are essential. He said, “As a friend, I have always said that for the bright future of our coming generations, peace is of utmost importance. But I also know that solutions are not possible on battlegrounds. Amid bombs, guns and bullets, solutions and peace talks do not succeed. We will have to follow the path to peace only through talks.”

PM Modi also expressed his sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, particularly children, due to the conflict. He said, “Be it war, conflicts, terror attacks – everyone who believes in humanity is pained when there is loss of lives. But when innocent children are murdered, when we see innocent children dying, it is heartbreaking. That pain is immense.”
