The Ministry of External Affairs has announced the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, a flagship event of the Government of India, to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from January 8-10, 2025. The theme is "Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat." A large number of Indian diaspora members from over 50 countries have registered for the event.
Key Highlights
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the convention on January 9, featuring a virtual address by Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad & Tobago. PM Modi will also launch the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train for the diaspora, under the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana.
Exhibitions and Sessions
Four exhibitions will be inaugurated, including "Vishwaroop Ram" and "Diaspora's Contribution to Technology." The convention will host five thematic plenary sessions, focusing on diaspora youth leadership, sustainable development, and women's leadership.
Valedictory Session
President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the valedictory session on January 10, conferring the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025. The Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will occur on January 8, with Dr. Dev Pragad as the Guest of Honour.
The event will be webcast live on the PBD website and MEA's YouTube channel.
