Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year
Rosh Hashanah, meaning ‘head of the year,’ is a two-day celebration marking the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days each autumn.
Recent Developments in West Asia
On September 30, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with PM Netanyahu to discuss recent developments in West Asia. PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to supporting efforts for early restoration of peace and stability, stressing the importance of preventing regional escalation and ensuring the safe release of all hostages.
In October last year, Israel launched a counter-offensive against Hamas after hundreds of Hamas terrorists entered Israeli borders, resulting in over 1200 deaths and over 250 hostages, with 100 still in captivity.
Iran’s Missile Attack on Israel
The turmoil in West Asia escalated when Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel. The United States military coordinated with the Israeli Defence Forces to defend against the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu described Iran’s missile attack as a “big mistake” and warned that Tehran would pay for it.
Following the attack, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) called on Lebanese civilians in southern Lebanon to evacuate due to Hezbollah’s activities. Colonel Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, stated, “Hezbollah’s activity forces the IDF to act against it. The IDF does not wish to harm you. For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately. Anyone who is near Hezbollah operatives, their facilities or their weapons, puts themselves at risk.”
