New Delhi, October 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 10th anniversary of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, highlighting the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission. He called it the world's biggest and most successful movement of this century, emphasizing its lasting impact.
PM Modi praised the public's energy and leadership in making the Swachh Bharat Mission a part of their lives. He stated, 'The Swachh Bharat Mission is a symbol of the selfless commitment of crores of Indians.'
Addressing an event at Vigyan Bhawan, PM Modi said, '1,000 years from now, when studies will be carried out about India of the 21st century, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan will be remembered.' He added that the more successful the mission, the more India will shine.
Launched on October 2, 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission aims to promote hygiene, cleanliness, and eliminate open defecation. PM Modi shared that over 27 lakh events were held in 15 days, with more than 28 crore people participating.
On this important day, projects worth around Rs 10,000 crore related to cleanliness were started. Under Mission Amrit, water and sewage treatment plants will be built in many cities, along with other initiatives like Namami Gange and the Govardhan plant producing biogas from waste.
PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He expressed gratitude to citizens, sanitation workers, religious leaders, players, celebrities, NGOs, media persons, and government officials for their contributions to the mission.
To mark the milestone, PM Modi participated in a cleanliness drive with school children. He urged all citizens to join the cleanliness initiative to further strengthen the spirit of 'Swachh Bharat.'
