In Islamabad, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has dismissed claims by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party regarding an alleged government offer to transfer former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Bani Gala or place him under house arrest. Asif, speaking at an event in Sialkot, labeled these claims as baseless, stating, "No such proposal has been made, nor is there any pressure for his release." He emphasized that decisions about Khan's detention are under the judiciary's jurisdiction, not the government's.
Asif accused PTI of creating false narratives for political gain, saying, "These claims are entirely unfounded and are part of PTI's ongoing attempts to mislead the public." He further stated that Imran Khan's future will be determined by the courts, not the government, and criticized PTI for allegedly trying to destabilize Pakistan.
These remarks follow statements by Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, who claimed that the government offered a deal to move Khan from jail to his residence, which both the government and PTI have denied. Imran Khan, who was Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has been in jail since August 2023 on various charges.
