Pakistan International Airlines Avoids Major Accident in Dubai

Multan [Pakistan], October 1: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) narrowly avoided a major accident when an engine malfunction and burst tires forced an emergency stop during takeoff from Dubai International Airport. The plane, an Airbus A320, was carrying 172 passengers from Dubai to Multan.

According to the PIA spokesperson, the captain used the emergency brake system after receiving a warning about the engine malfunction, which caused all the tires to burst. Fortunately, all passengers were safely evacuated.

PIA’s engineering team has been dispatched from Karachi to Dubai to fix the technical issue. Meanwhile, the airline has rescheduled flights for the affected passengers, with some being accommodated on PIA flight PK 204 from Dubai to Lahore and others from Sharjah to Multan.

Two days earlier, a PIA flight from Muscat to Peshawar was diverted to Karachi due to a hydraulic failure. PIA is currently under a massive debt burden of approximately USD 2.9 billion and is facing privatization efforts. The government has pre-qualified six bidders for the sale, but the process has seen multiple delays.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recommended that the Government of Pakistan sell off all loss-making state-owned enterprises to stabilize the economy. However, recent technical failures make it challenging for PIA to gain trust during this critical time.
