The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given more time to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to submit documents related to their intra-party polls case. The hearing has been postponed to February 11. PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan appeared before the ECP's three-member bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. Petitioners, including Akbar S. Babar, were also present.
The Chief Election Commissioner reminded PTI that the case has been ongoing since April 30 of the previous year, and the party has yet to provide a written response. PTI was instructed to address five applications and submit their response by the next hearing. Gohar Ali Khan assured that PTI would respond to the ECP during the next hearing.
After the hearing, Gohar Ali Khan mentioned that PTI is still waiting for certification of its intra-party elections. He also noted that the Leader of the Opposition, Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz have taken steps regarding the appointment of the new Chief Election Commissioner.
Meanwhile, Akbar S. Babar, PTI's former information secretary, alleged that PTI's accounts should be frozen until the ECP's decision. He claimed that PTI's organizational structure lacks legal status and is controlled by "infiltrators and outsiders." Babar also raised concerns about the legality of funds used by PTI, alleging that PKR 1 billion was distributed among lawyers.
