Odisha Police Arrests Main Suspect After Bhadrak Violence Over Social Media Post
In Bhadrak, Odisha, police have arrested the main suspect responsible for a controversial social media post that led to violent incidents in the district. According to SP Bhadrak, Varun Guntupalli, the situation is now under control with heavy security deployed.
The main suspect has been presented before the SDJM Court in Bhadrak and is currently in judicial custody. Seven others have been arrested for attacking police officers during the unrest.
To prevent further violence, the Odisha government has suspended internet services in the district for 48 hours. This decision was made by the Additional Chief Secretary of the State Home Department, Staybrata Sahu, to stop the spread of inflammatory messages on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and X.
Deputy Inspector General of the Eastern Range, Satyajit Naik, stated that Section 163 of BNSS has been imposed to prohibit gatherings of more than five people in the Purna Bazar area. Multiple police personnel were injured during the incidents, and FIRs have been registered against the culprits.
Ten platoons of security forces have been deployed to patrol the area, conduct flag marches, and maintain order. The police are also carrying out picketing and other activities to ensure peace in the region.
