New Projects Worth Rs 13 Crores Launched at Paradip Port by Ministry Secretary
The Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways visited Paradip Port Authority (PPA) in Odisha and inaugurated several developmental projects worth more than Rs 13 crore.
Trauma and Burn Care Centre
One of the key projects is the Trauma and Burn Care (TBC) Centre, located in the newly constructed Annex building of Paradip Port Hospital. This centre, built at a cost of Rs 2.90 crore, will offer curative and rehabilitative services for trauma and burn victims in and around Paradip.
Water Treatment Plant
The Secretary also laid the foundation stone for a Water Treatment Plant, which will cost Rs 10.50 crore. This plant will filter 16 million litres of water per day and is expected to be completed by December 2024. It will enhance the water infrastructure of Paradip Port and provide quality drinking water to the citizens of Port Township.
Review and Recommendations
During his visit, the Secretary reviewed the functioning of the PPA and interacted with Heads of Departments. He inspected port operations and suggested system improvements to increase productivity. These recommendations aim to enhance capacity and streamline workflow, contributing to the long-term growth of Paradip Port.
Future Goals
Paradip Port is the highest cargo-handling major port in India, handling 145.38 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in the financial year 2023-24. Under Vision 2047, the goal is to increase the port handling capacity to 10,000 MTPA (million metric tons per annum). This aligns with the Sagarmala programme and Maritime India Vision 2030, which aim to boost port capacity and develop global standard ports in India.
