Manu Bhaker Meets Sonia Gandhi After Winning Two Medals at Paris Olympics
New Delhi [India], August 7: After returning to India from the Paris Olympics, double Olympic medallist in shooting, Manu Bhaker, met Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. The Congress party shared this news in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, the 22-year-old shooter received a warm welcome at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Bhaker expressed her happiness at being back in India and enjoying Indian food, which she missed during the Olympics. She said, “It feels great the way I was welcomed at the airport and the hotel. I am very happy that the people of the country are supporting me like this. I have brought home 2 medals and a lot of inspiration and motivation to work harder in the future.”
The Paris Olympics marked a redemption for Bhaker, who faced a gun malfunction during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, causing her to miss the top-eight finish. In Paris, she secured third place in the women’s individual 10m Air pistol event, becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal. She also won a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol (mixed team) event with Sarabjot Singh, marking India’s first-ever shooting team medal. Although she narrowly missed a third medal in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event, Bhaker made history as the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Paris Olympics.
