Maharashtra's New Government: Fadnavis, Shinde, and Pawar Take Charge
The new Mahayuti government in Maharashtra has announced its portfolios. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will oversee the Home, Law and Judiciary departments. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will manage Urban Development, Housing, and Public Work. Ajit Pawar, another Deputy Chief Minister, will handle Finance, Planning, and Excise.
Fadnavis also retains Energy (excluding Renewable Energy), General Administration, and Information and Publicity. Pankaja Munde is assigned Environment, Climate Change, and Animal Husbandry.
The Maharashtra cabinet includes 36 ministers, with 6 Ministers of State. Other key assignments include Revenue to Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Medical Education to Hasan Mushrif, and Higher and Technical Education to Chandrakant Patil.
The cabinet expansion took place on December 15, with 39 leaders sworn in. The BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP have significant representation in the cabinet. The Mahayuti alliance, led by the BJP, won a decisive victory in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024, securing 235 seats.
