Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole Discusses Seat Sharing for Upcoming Elections
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 2: Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole announced that the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will reveal decisions on several seats before Dussehra. The MVA leaders met to discuss seat sharing for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, covering over 150 seats in the meeting.
Patole stated, "We will soon finish this and will make announcements on several seats before Dussehra. Discussion on more than 150 seats has been done in today's meeting. We will decide based on merits. Soon there will be clarity on the seat discussion."
Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi emphasized the alliance's strength, saying, "MVA will fight strongly. The seats could be less and more. People are being divided in the name of religion. We are asking for 12 seats."
Nationalist Congress Party-SCP leader Jitendra Awhad mentioned that discussions are progressing well, with around 288 seats being discussed. He said, "It was a long meeting and there is no enmity, discussion is happening well...Around 288 seats were discussed."
Nana Patole criticized Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his "Vote Jihad" remarks, demanding an apology. Patole said, "Devendra Fadnavis should be ashamed...He is the Home Minister of the state and holds a constitutional post...Devendra Fadnavis himself wants to do the same cheap politics that the BJP does by making such statements and fighting on the basis of religion during elections...Congress demands that Devendra Fadnavis should apologise to the people of the state (for his statement)."
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with party leaders in Mumbai, expressing confidence in forming a 'Mahayuti' government in Maharashtra. Shah stated, "The formation of a Mahayuti government in Maharashtra is inevitable. No one can stop Mahayuti from winning the elections in Maharashtra."
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray criticized Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, alleging that many industrial projects have moved to Gujarat since Shinde took office. Thackeray also accused Amit Shah of wanting to "finish" him and NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held in 288 constituencies, with dates yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India. The election will see a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition and the Maha Yuti Alliance.
