Maaya Revathi Shines at 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship in New Delhi
New Delhi [India], October 1: Maaya Revathi, a 15-year-old tennis player from Tamil Nadu, delivered an outstanding performance by defeating fourth-seeded Arunkumar Prabh 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi.
Maaya, who holds the record for the longest ITF Juniors winning streak, lost the first game of the opening set but quickly found her rhythm. She used her swift movements and excellent net play to break her opponent’s serve and win the next five games, securing the first set. In the second set, Maaya continued her dominance, breaking her opponent’s serve in the first game and taking a 2-0 lead. Despite a brief comeback attempt by her opponent, Maaya maintained her momentum and won the match.
The tournament, organized by the All India Tennis Association and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association, features top talents from across India. Past participants include renowned players like Rohan Bopanna, Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Sania Mirza, and Rutuja Bhosale.
In the men’s singles category, second-seed Manish Sureshkumar from Tamil Nadu defeated Jagmeet Singh of Haryana to advance to the second round. Manish won the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (4) and dominated the second set 6-0.
Other notable results include Telangana’s Theertha Shashank defeating Shivank Bhatnagar of Delhi 6-4, 6-2, and Manipur’s Bhusan Haobam beating Suraj R Prabodh of Karnataka 6-1, 7-5. In the women’s singles category, Pooja Inghale of Maharashtra triumphed over Telangana’s Nirali Padaniya 6-3, 6-1, and seventh seed Sejal Bhutada from Maharashtra won against Vidhi Jani of Gujarat 6-0, 3-6, 7-5.
The tournament offers a total prize pool of over Rs 21.55 lakh, including Kit Allowance for junior categories. Winners and runners-up in the U16 and U14 singles events will also receive a Tennis scholarship of Rs 25,000 each. The Boys and Girls Under-16 & Under-14 category matches will be held from October 5 to October 12.
