Liam Livingstone Aims for ODI Comeback in ICC Champions Trophy

England’s experienced all-rounder Liam Livingstone is determined to make a return to the ODI squad and feature in the ICC Champions Trophy next year. Livingstone, who has been used as a finisher in the last three T20 World Cups, showcased his all-round capabilities in England’s series opener against Australia.

Despite England’s 28-run defeat while chasing 180, Livingstone top-scored with 37 runs and delivered a clinical performance with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs. Although he is not part of the current ODI squad, Livingstone is keen to make his return to the 50-over format, relying on his performances in T20 matches.

Livingstone said, “I want to play as much cricket for England as I possibly can. Unfortunately, I won’t be playing in the ODIs, but it’s still not something I’m giving up on. I’ve had a difficult couple of years with injuries, but I’m determined to make a comeback.”

Promoted to number four in the batting order, Livingstone thrived in his new role, showing his ability to take the game deep. He added, “I feel like I’ve shown over the last few weeks that the longer I get to bat, the more I can affect games. There’s plenty of cricket to be played, and if I’m not involved in the ODI stuff, there are still many opportunities.”

Livingstone has faced several injuries, including an ankle injury in 2022 and a knee injury during his Test debut in Pakistan. Now fully fit, he believes he can perform to his full potential, saying, “I can run around at 100 percent in the field, and I can bowl and bat to the best of my ability, which I haven’t been able to do for two-and-a-half years.”
