Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Pays Tribute to DYFI Leader Pushpan
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], September 29: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed his condolences on the passing of Communist Party of India (Marxist) activist Pushpan. Pushpan, a former leader of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), passed away on September 28 at a private hospital in Kozhikode after being bedridden for nearly three decades due to injuries sustained in the 1994 Koothuparamba police firing.
Pushpan’s cremation is scheduled to take place in Kannur tomorrow. Chief Minister Vijayan described Pushpan as a symbol of resilience and unwavering resolve. He praised Pushpan’s commitment to his ideals and his life of sacrifice, which will continue to inspire the fight for a just and egalitarian society.
Recalling the events of 1994, Vijayan noted that Pushpan bravely faced the terror of the United Democratic Front (UDF), which resulted in the deaths of five DYFI activists. Despite his long battle with ill health, Pushpan remained loyal to his communist convictions and had no regrets about the tragedy he faced.
Vijayan concluded by paying tribute to Pushpan, calling him an immortal symbol of philanthropy and sacrifice, and shared in the pain of Pushpan’s friends and family.
