Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao Defends CM Siddaramaiah in MUDA Scam Controversy
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 1: Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) booked Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. Rao stated that the ED’s role is to investigate financial irregularities, but no exchange of funds has occurred in this case.
In a post on X, Rao accused the BJP of using the ED for political purposes. He said, “What role does the ED have in the MUDA case, where no monetary transactions have occurred? The ED’s mandate is to investigate financial irregularities, yet in this case, no exchange of funds has taken place. So why is the ED being brought into this?”
Rao further claimed that the BJP and JD(S) are trying to silence Siddaramaiah, a leader who supports backward communities. He warned that targeting Siddaramaiah could have serious consequences and that undermining his political image disrespects the communities he represents.
On Monday, after the ED booked Siddaramaiah for money laundering related to the MUDA land allotment scam, his wife offered to surrender the 14 plots allotted to her by the authority. Siddaramaiah reiterated that he would not resign and would address the situation legally. He distinguished his case from that of former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, stating that Yeddyurappa’s case involved land denotification, while his did not.
The Mysuru Lokayukta has started an inquiry into the case following a court order to file a FIR against Siddaramaiah for alleged illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi by the MUDA.
Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil criticized the ED’s case against Siddaramaiah, calling it a significant mistake. Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said that by returning the MUDA site, Siddaramaiah has complicated the situation further.
