Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Announces New Skydeck and Tunnel Projects in Bengaluru
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Saturday that opposition leaders have agreed to set up a 250-metre Skydeck near NICE Road. This decision will be presented to the Cabinet soon.
The Skydeck requires about 25 acres of land, and the location near NICE Road was chosen after considering various factors, including aviation restrictions and convenience for tourists. The land is currently with the promoters of NICE Road, but it is expected to be handed over to the government as per a Supreme Court order.
Shivakumar also discussed plans for a tunnel road from Esteem Mall near Hebbal to Silk Board, spanning 18.5 km. Tenders will be called after Cabinet discussions. Another tunnel from East to West is planned for a subsequent phase. Additionally, 17-18 places have been identified for signal-free corridors, requiring about Rs 12,000 crores for 100 km of construction.
Garbage disposal will be improved by using government or private lands 15-20 km outside the city. Traffic congestion due to abandoned vehicles will be addressed by police seizing and auctioning them.
Regarding Bengaluru's lakes, a Lake Development Authority has been formed to fill tanks with treated water. The Cauvery 5th Stage project is set to launch by August 20. Special grants for Bengaluru MLAs' constituencies will be discussed with the Chief Minister.
Shivakumar also responded to BJP State President Vijayendra's demands for Rahul Gandhi's statement on certain cases, calling Vijayendra an immature politician and accusing the BJP of being behind the Mysuru Urban Development Authority scam.
