Karachi Protests: Dumper and Oil Tankers Association Responds to Vehicle Arson
In Karachi, Pakistan, the Dumper and Oil Tankers Association staged a protest at the National Highway. This was in response to the burning of vehicles by unidentified criminals. Liaquat Mehsud, the president of the dumper owners' organization, highlighted that a court order allows dumpers to enter the city. He emphasized that vehicles involved in accidents should face legal consequences.
Recently, unknown criminals set fire to three cargo trucks and a water tanker in Karachi's Landhi, Korangi, Al-Karam, and Surjani Town neighborhoods. Police have arrested ten individuals linked to these incidents. Additionally, a tragic accident occurred on Hawkes Bay Road, where a motorbike rider was hit by a dumper, resulting in another person's death. The dumper driver fled the scene.
In the first 42 days of this year, 102 people have died due to such incidents. This morning, two trucks and a trailer were set ablaze by unidentified individuals. Investigators noted that the criminals used similar tactics in both incidents, targeting cargo vehicles during early-morning raids.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) released a report highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh, with a significant increase in street crime and kidnappings in Karachi. Qazi Khizar, HRCP Sindh region's vice chairperson, reported ongoing enforced disappearances of journalists, lawyers, nationalists, and political workers, with 2,299 cases still unresolved by the end of 2023.
