Junaid Akbar and Omar Ayub Khan Resign from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Leadership

In Islamabad, Pakistan, Junaid Akbar, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has resigned from the party’s core committee. He criticized the leadership, stating that certain individuals are using the party for personal gain and that he has no decision-making authority or access to PTI founder Imran Khan.

Junaid Akbar announced his resignation and plans to start a movement for accountability with party workers. His resignation follows that of PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, who resigned to focus on his role as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Omar Ayub’s resignation was accepted by Imran Khan, the founding chairman of PTI.

Omar Ayub mentioned that it was challenging to continue as the party’s secretary general while also serving as the opposition leader. He also indicated his intention to step down as chairman of PTI’s Central Finance Board but will remain a party worker.

Reports suggest rifts within PTI, with some lawmakers considering forming a forward bloc due to dissatisfaction with the leadership’s inability to secure the release of Imran Khan from jail.
