The city of Jerusalem, in collaboration with the Ministries of Energy and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israeli Tradition, has launched a pioneering project. This initiative, executed through Eden, the Jerusalem Economic Development Company, utilizes the city's electricity pole infrastructure to install charging sockets for electric vehicles.
The charging stations, located on Berl Locker/Aria Street, are connected to the municipal lighting switchboard. This project is part of a broader municipal plan aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and promoting green transportation. It aligns with Government Resolution 1515, which emphasizes the transition to sustainable and clean energy, focusing on energy infrastructure and resilience in Israel's largest local authority.
The project is supported by another green initiative in Jerusalem, which involves replacing municipal lighting with energy-efficient options. In the past year, approximately 9,000 light bulbs have been upgraded to energy-efficient LED lights, a move supported by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The freed-up energy from these upgrades is now used for the new charging stations.
To accelerate the deployment of charging stations and streamline the bureaucratic process, the municipality's Department of Light and Electricity is identifying additional potential locations for charging outlets. Currently, Jerusalem hosts around 300 charging outlets, including 8 fast-charging stations.

LED lights are a type of light bulb that uses less energy and lasts longer than traditional bulbs. They are more efficient and help save electricity.
Fast-charging stations are special charging points that can charge electric vehicles much quicker than regular charging stations, allowing cars to be ready to go in a shorter time.
