Jan Aushadhi Kendras Achieve Record Sales in September 2024
In September 2024, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), reached a record-breaking sales figure of Rs 200 crore, marking the highest monthly sales in the program’s history. This represents a 42% increase compared to September 2023, where sales were Rs 141 crore. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers reported a total annual growth of 31.20% up to September 2024, with a sales target of Rs 913.30 crore already achieved.
Jan Aushadhi Kendras serve nearly 10 lakh people daily, offering medicines at significantly reduced prices. Over the past decade, these Kendras have sold medicines worth Rs 6100 crore, resulting in estimated savings of Rs 30,000 crore for citizens compared to branded medicines. Under PMBJP, medicines are priced at a maximum of 50% of the average price of the top three branded medicines, with some products being 80% to 90% cheaper.
The program aims to establish 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India, with 13,822 already operational as of September 30, 2024. The Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, launched PMBJP to provide affordable, quality generic medications to all.
