Hezbollah Targeted in Southern Lebanon
In a separate incident, Israeli soldiers targeted a Hezbollah squad in southern Lebanon. The squad was reportedly transferring weapons from a storage facility to a vehicle. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released footage of the operation, which involved striking both the weapons storage facility and the vehicle to eliminate the threat.
Ceasefire and Security Measures
The IDF's actions are in line with the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon. Under the ceasefire, which began on November 27, Hezbollah is required to withdraw its armed presence from southern Lebanon south of the Litani River. Israeli forces are also set to withdraw in stages, with the Lebanese Armed Forces taking over the area, monitored by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
According to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, Hezbollah is prohibited from operating in southern Lebanon south of the Litani River, a measure that was put in place following the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
