Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Vows Retaliation Against Houthis for Missile Attack

Tel Aviv [Israel], September 15: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to exact a ‘heavy price’ from the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen following a missile attack on Sunday morning.

Missile Attack and Response

During the weekly Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu stated, ‘We are in a multi-arena campaign against Iran’s evil axis that strives to destroy us.’ He warned that any attempt to harm Israel would be met with severe consequences.

The missile, launched from Yemen, triggered red alert sirens in central Israel. Although Israeli air defenses failed to intercept the missile, no serious injuries were reported. Shrapnel landed on a train station in Modiin, causing minor injuries to six people who were seeking shelter.

Houthis’ Actions and Threats

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they fired a hypersonic missile at Tel Aviv. This was the first attack since July 20, when Israel retaliated against a drone attack by striking Yemen’s Red Sea port of Al Hudaydah.

Since October, the Houthis have launched numerous missiles and drones at Israel. They have also threatened to target any Israel-bound ship in the Red Sea, hijacking the MV Galaxy Leader in November and holding its crew hostage.

Global Impact

The Houthis’ actions have significant implications for global oil routes, as the majority of the world’s oil passes through the Bab el-Mandeb Straits, a critical maritime passage between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa.
