India's Stance on Illegal Immigration Amid US Deportation Operations

In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has reiterated its position against illegal immigration. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that India will facilitate the return of Indian nationals who are overstaying or residing without proper documentation in the United States or anywhere globally. Jaiswal stated, "We are against illegal immigration, especially because it is linked to several forms of organized crime." He assured that India would take back its nationals if their documents are verified.

During a visit to the US, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed visa issues with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighting the importance of timely visa issuance for strengthening economic and people-to-people ties. Jaiswal noted the strong and multifaceted relationship between India and the US, emphasizing ongoing communication to address issues constructively.

The remarks came after the White House announced a massive deportation operation. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the Trump Administration is actively deporting illegal immigrants, including criminals. President Trump had promised mass deportations during his campaign and signed executive orders declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border.

While President Trump supports skilled immigrants through the H-1B program, the issue of undocumented Indians remains unresolved. The American Immigration Council warns that mass deportations could significantly impact the US economy, potentially reducing GDP by up to 6.8%.
