India and Russia have a strong strategic partnership in defence, guided by the Agreement on the Programme for Military-Technical Cooperation for 2021-2031. This agreement was signed during the inaugural India-Russia 2+2 Dialogue in December 2021.
The IRIGC-MTC, established in 2000, is the main body managing military cooperation between the two countries. It includes two Working Groups and nine Sub-Groups that discuss a wide range of military issues.
Over the years, the partnership has evolved from a buyer-seller relationship to joint research and production.
