Indian-Made Vehicles to Support UN Peacekeeping in Lebanon
In a significant move to enhance indigenous capabilities, 62 vehicles manufactured in India are being sent to Lebanon for use by the Indian contingent in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This fleet includes High Mobility Troop Carriage Vehicles, Utility Vehicles, Ambulances, Fuel Bowsers, and Recovery Vehicles. Previously, Indian troops in Lebanon used vehicles provided by the UN from other countries. The introduction of these Made-in-India vehicles highlights India's commitment to self-reliance and its growing defense manufacturing capabilities.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) acknowledged the Indian Army's efforts in promoting peace. Recently, UNIFIL supported the redeployment of the Lebanese Army in southwest Lebanon following the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Peacekeepers continue to work towards maintaining peace and implementing resolution 1701.
Parvathaneni Harish, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, visited the Centre for UN Peacekeeping in Delhi. He was briefed on the Indian Army's deployment in UN Peacekeeping Missions and the training of peacekeepers. Harish praised the Centre's vision for providing top-tier training and the Indian Army's crucial role in global peacekeeping.
