Indian Troops Empower Rumajak Village with Agriculture and Health Initiatives
In a significant outreach effort, the Indian Battalion under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei conducted a transformative agricultural initiative in Rumajak Village. This program aimed to empower local communities by enhancing their agricultural knowledge and practices. A total of 71 local residents, including 37 women and 34 men, participated in the initiative, which was led by the Commander of the Rumajak Company Operating Base. The focus was on promoting sustainable agricultural methods and fostering self-reliance among the local population.
The Abyei Area, a border region between South Sudan and Sudan, has been granted "special administrative status" by the 2004 Protocol on the Resolution of the Abyei Conflict. In October 2024, Indian troops also held an outreach program in Abyei, focusing on maternal health. This session, attended by 24 women and nine girls, was led by Captain Jaspreet Kaur and Major Abhijith S. It covered essential practices for a safe and healthy pregnancy, including nutritional guidelines and prenatal care. Handbooks were distributed to help participants track their health information and medication schedules.
The local women appreciated the Indian troops for providing crucial information and called for more educational engagements in the future. These initiatives are part of the Indian Battalion's ongoing commitment to community support and humanitarian efforts in Abyei, promoting peace, stability, and welfare.
