Indian Badminton Stars Shine at US Open 2024 in Texas

The Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have made it to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles event at the US Open 2024 badminton tournament in Texas, United States. Ranked 23rd in the world, Treesa and Gayatri came from behind to beat world No. 83 Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu of Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-16, 11-21, 19-21 at the Fort Worth Convention Centre. The match lasted 54 minutes. They will next face world No. 35 Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato of Japan in the quarter-finals.

In the men’s singles event, Priyanshu Rajawat also advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Huang Yu Kai of Chinese Taipei in straight games, 21-18, 21-16. The 22-year-old Indian player, ranked world No. 40, took 35 minutes to secure his victory. Priyanshu will compete against world No. 34 Lei Lan Xi of the People’s Republic of China in the next round.

Meanwhile, India’s Malvika Bansod triumphed over Tereza Svabikova of Czechia in a thrilling three-game match, winning 21-15, 19-21, 14-21. Ranked world No. 49, Malvika took 58 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals. She will face two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland for a spot in the semi-finals.

In the men’s doubles event, the sixth-seeded Indian pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and K Sai Pratheek were defeated by Chen Zhi Yi and Presley Smith of the USA with scores of 17-21, 21-19, 19-21 in a 70-minute match.

The US Open 2024 badminton tournament, a BWF Super 300 event, will conclude on Sunday.
