Jaishankar Meets Spanish Foreign Minister Albares
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares in Madrid to discuss enhancing cooperation between India and Spain, as well as with the European Union. They signed agreements in sports and sustainable development, aiming to broaden their partnership.
Jaishankar emphasized the importance of Spain's support in India's 'Make in India' initiative and highlighted the growing defense cooperation between the two nations. He noted the presence of 230 Spanish companies in India and welcomed more collaborations.
Looking ahead, 2026 has been designated as a year of Artificial Intelligence and cultural tourism to strengthen people-to-people ties. Jaishankar expressed satisfaction with the opening of a Spanish Consulate in Bengaluru, which will facilitate talent exchange.
India's interest in the Mediterranean region was also discussed, with annual trade reaching USD 80 billion. Jaishankar highlighted India's peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon and Golan Heights and the importance of Spain's support in global and regional issues.
