India and Kuwait Strengthen Ties in 6th Round of Foreign Office Consultations

India and Kuwait held their 6th round of Foreign Office consultations in Kuwait on Wednesday. The Indian delegation was led by Aseem R. Mahajan, Joint Secretary (Gulf) from the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Kuwaiti delegation was headed by Ambassador Sameeh Essa Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs of Kuwait.

During the consultations, both sides reviewed their bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. They expressed satisfaction with their strong ties and agreed to enhance cooperation in various areas, including political relations, trade, education, technology, health, culture, and people-to-people contacts.

Aseem R. Mahajan also met with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss new initiatives to deepen the India-Kuwait partnership. Additionally, he met with Ziyad Al-Najem, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, to explore ways to boost bilateral trade and investment, diversify the trade basket, and enhance energy cooperation and technology initiatives.

In a meeting with Tahani Rashid Al-Naseer, Assistant Foreign Minister (Legal), discussions focused on finalizing ongoing negotiations of various agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

The timely convening of this round of consultations, following the previous one in May 2023, is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and agreed to hold the next round of consultations in New Delhi at a mutually convenient time.
