India and Japan Hold First Economic Security Dialogue in Tokyo
India and Japan recently held their first Dialogue on Economic Security in Tokyo, focusing on Strategic Trade and Technology. The meeting was co-chaired by India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, and Japan's Vice Minister, Masataka Okano. Various ministries and agencies from both countries participated.
This dialogue was initially announced during the India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial meeting in New Delhi on August 20, 2024. Discussions emphasized strengthening industrial and technological resilience, safeguarding economic interests, and building resilient supply chains.
Both nations agreed to promote business and academic partnerships and explored talent exchange and upskilling opportunities. The dialogue aims to achieve tangible outcomes through comprehensive collaboration, reinforcing the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan.
The partnership is rooted in historical and cultural ties, with influences dating back centuries. Modern figures like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore have further strengthened these bonds. Today, over 40,000 Indians reside in Japan, contributing to the dynamic relationship.
