India and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to work together against terrorism and organized crime. This was discussed during the 5th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime held in Rome on January 16 and 17. The meeting was co-chaired by KD Dewal from India's Ministry of External Affairs and Alessandro Azzoni from Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two countries agreed to cooperate in international forums like the United Nations, the Global Counterterrorism Forum, and the Financial Action Task Force. They also talked about advancing negotiations on various bilateral agreements.
During the meeting, both sides discussed domestic, regional, and international terrorist threats. They shared ideas on how to improve cooperation in counterterrorism and transnational organized crime. They emphasized the importance of stopping the misuse of technology for terrorist activities and ensuring that those responsible for such acts are prosecuted effectively.
The Indian delegation also visited the Inter-agency Law Enforcement Academy in Caserta, Italy, to discuss capacity-building measures. Both countries agreed to hold the next meeting in Delhi at a convenient time.
