India and France Strengthen Naval Ties with Rafale Marine Jets
In Vasco De Gama, Goa, India is on the verge of finalizing a deal to acquire 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets for its aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. Rear Admiral Jacques Mallard, the French Carrier Strike Group Commander, emphasized the benefits of both nations using the same aircraft. He stated, "Working together with the same kind of aircraft means sharing the same kind of lessons learned, sharing process, building together better views of the same tools...working on the same aircraft will get the two navies closer together."
The French Navy's aircraft carrier, Charles De Gaulle, is currently docked at the Mormugao port trust jetty. The French and Indian forces are set to conduct joint exercises, including the 42nd edition of the bilateral Varuna exercise. These exercises will involve the Rafale Marine fighter aircraft and Indian Air Force fighter jets, enhancing cooperation between the two navies.
Rear Admiral Mallard highlighted the importance of training for carrier operations, describing it as a "dedicated job." The exercises aim to strengthen the relationship between the French and Indian navies, building on their shared experiences and capabilities.
