New Delhi, India - On August 21-22, India and the European Union will host a regional conference to discuss current and emerging threats in online radicalisation and find ways to jointly counter the exploitation of online spaces by extremist and terrorist actors.
The two-day EU-India Track 1.5 Conference in New Delhi will bring together experts, policymakers, academia, and law enforcement officials from South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka) and Europe. The conference aims to enhance counter-terrorism dialogues and partnerships in the region, consistent with the EU's Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Senior officials and experts from India's Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Indian Army, and Indian Police will participate. From Europe, top security practitioners from EU institutions and member states, including Austria, Italy, Croatia, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, France, and Romania, will join.
EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and expertise to counter online radicalisation. KD Dewal, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) from India's Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and the need for international cooperation.
This conference is part of a series of counterterrorism engagements between the EU and India, building on previous activities like combating drone terrorism, cybersecurity, and misinformation. The EU-India Counterterrorism Dialogue has prioritized the regulation of terrorist content online, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing this evolving threat.
