IGP VK Birdi Leads Security Review for Jammu and Kashmir Elections

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir zone, VK Birdi, held a crucial meeting on Saturday to review crime and security. This meeting took place at the Police Control Room and focused on preparations for the upcoming vote counting day of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections, scheduled for October 8.

The meeting was attended by several Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs), district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and other senior officers. IGP Birdi assessed the overall security situation in the Kashmir zone. District SSPs presented their efforts in crime prevention and maintaining law and order in their areas.

Discussions included the handling of general crime, NDPS, UAPA, and other cases. Preventive law actions and pending inquest proceedings were also reviewed. IGP Birdi praised the district chiefs for their crime prevention efforts and stressed the importance of improving investigation quality and conviction rates, especially in narco and terror-related cases.

He reiterated the J&K Police’s commitment to maintaining safety and security, urging officers to ensure transparency, accountability, and swift case resolutions to protect citizens’ rights and safety.

The Election Commission of India reported a 63.88% voter turnout in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The third phase, held on October 1, saw a 69.69% turnout, while phases 1 and 2 recorded 61.38% and 57.31%, respectively.
