Honoring Dr. Manmohan Singh: A Call to Rename Hoshiarpur College

In Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Virendra Vashist, a member of the All India Congress Committee and a Supreme Court lawyer, has urged the Punjab government to rename a local college in honor of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. This appeal follows Dr. Singh's expression of his deep emotional connection to his alma mater in Hoshiarpur.

Vashist highlighted Dr. Singh's significant contributions to India and proposed that renaming the college would be a fitting tribute to his legacy. He also suggested building a memorial at the college to honor Dr. Singh's transformative role in Indian politics and economics, serving as an educational tool to inspire future leaders.

In his letter, Vashist expressed hope that the Punjab Government would consider this request, emphasizing the importance of preserving Dr. Singh's legacy for future generations. He believes this gesture would honor a distinguished son of Punjab and benefit the state's people and future leaders.

Additionally, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that a college under the University of Delhi be named after Dr. Singh, following his recent passing at the age of 92. NSUI National President Varun Choudhary emphasized that this would be a tribute to Dr. Singh's academic journey and contributions to the nation.
