Hemanth Muddappa Wins Triple at Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship in Chennai

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 30: Hemanth Muddappa, India’s most-accomplished motorsports athlete, added more victories to his name at the MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship. Known as Lightning R1 for his speed, Muddappa won three races in the second round held at the Madras International Circuit (MIC) in Irungattukottai.

The 12-time National champion from Mantra Racing missed victories in two classes on Saturday but came back strong on Sunday. He started with a third place in the 4-stroke 551 to 850cc Super Sport class, behind Mohammed Riyaz and Altaf Khan from Hyderabad. However, he secured victories in the remaining three classes.

In the 851 to 1050cc Super Sport final, Muddappa clocked 07.915 seconds, beating Niranjan R Kumar and Khaja Awais. He then won the 4-stroke 1051 to 1650cc Super Sport class with a time of 07.697 seconds, ahead of Mujahid Pasha and Attaulla Baig. Finally, he triumphed in the Unrestricted Super Sport class with a time of 7.739 seconds, again beating Mujahid Pasha and Attaulla Baig.

Muddappa expressed his happiness, saying, “We are back to the old set-up and sub-8 second runs, and I am happy to win three more today. The track conditions also deteriorated but we were ready for it. We as a team are confident and will come back stronger for Round 3.”
