Heatwave in Noida: Dr. Sunil Sharma Reports 75 Deaths in Three Days

Amid the heatwave conditions, Gautam Buddh Nagar’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sunil Sharma reported that the district health department received 75 bodies for post-mortem within three days from June 18-20. Of these, 20 were ‘brought dead’ and 10 were unidentified.

Dr. Sharma mentioned that the exact cause of these deaths is yet to be confirmed, but the heatwave cannot be ruled out as a possible factor. The post-mortem capacity has been increased with the appointment of three doctors to handle the situation.

Nationwide, the heatwave has claimed 114 lives and more than 40,000 suspected heatstroke cases have been reported between March 1 and June 19 this year. The highest number of deaths were reported from Uttar Pradesh (37), Bihar (17), Rajasthan (16), and Odisha (13).

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has directed the setup of special heatwave units in all central government hospitals and urged the public to take preventive measures to avoid dehydration by focusing on a liquid diet and drinking more water.
