General Officer Commanding Visits Udhampur Ahead of Elections
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps recently visited the operational areas of Delta Force in Basantgarh and Doodu, located in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The GOC praised the Delta Force for their dedication to combating terrorism and maintaining peace in the region.
As Udhampur prepares for the third and final phase of polling on October 1, security has been tightened across the district. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been deployed to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process. Udhampur SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure stated that special security measures are in place, particularly in Basantgarh, Latti, and Dudu.
This election is significant as it is the first in a decade and the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The election features a multi-cornered contest for 90 seats, with major players including the National Conference, Congress, People’s Democratic Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The voter turnout for the first two phases was 61% and 57.31%, respectively. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
